SIG Sauer M17
SIG Sauer P320-M17 and M17-Commemorative Edition are full-size striker-fired semi-automatic 9mm Luger civilian versions of the US Army’s new M17. Depending on the magazine, it’s a 10+1, 17+1 or even a 21+1 semi-auto. This Coyote Tan pistol mates a stainless-steel slide, barrel and frame to a polymer grip module.
Its six variants vary only in magazine offerings that include 10-round, 17-round and 21-round magazines and corresponding state compliance. The standard design is richly featured with an MIL-STD-1913 accessory rail under the muzzle, SIGLITE Front / Night Sight Rear Plate, excellent non-slip grip texturizing and serrated surfaces for all the levers and other key moving touchpoints.
SIG puts extensive thinking into ergonomics and design attributes making operation incredibly intuitive. This P320-M17 replete with thoughtful touches and well-done tactile surfaces ranging from the expected to the unusual. For instance, the PVD Coyote Tan slide has nicely done forward leaning diagonal grip serrations in both front and back. The gun is set up for ambidextrous use. The thumb safety at back is ambidextrous and the magazine release can be reversed for either left-hand or right-hand use. The slide rear cap has a recessed tray contour that also facilitates feeling your way around the pistol. Moreover, safety abounds: M17s feature a Loaded Chamber Indicator (LCI), striker safety and a disconnect safety.
Integrated in the grip module is the combat trigger guard. It has horizontal serrations and gentle concave surface and a deep undercut at the back. Housed within is a standard curved trigger with a 6-to-7-pound trigger pull. The grip module also has an integrated 3-slot M1913 Picatinny accessory rail under the muzzle.
The SIGLITE Front / Night Sight Rear Plate sights mean a white dot front sight with a blackout rear sight behind a removable cover plate you can set up with red dot optic sights. The dovetailed front sight can be moved left or right for wind age or be swapped out with other height front sights to adjust for elevation.
The six M17s share so many characteristics including color, frame and all key dimensions. So the 6-groove 1:10” twist 4.7” carbon steel barrel sits in a long slide that’s 8.0” overall. The long slide permits a long 6.6” sight radius. The height is 5.5” and the gun is 1.6” wide across its ambidextrous thumb safeties at the back. Of the six, one variant without manual thumb safeties. These guns weigh 29.6 ounces.
As you might expect, the six standard M17 models vary in magazine configurations. They are Coyote Tan except takedown lever, magazine release, trigger, manual safeties sights, removable sight plate and barrel are matte black!
The one without the manual safeties comes with 1 17-round magazine; there is also a similar model with safeties and a 17-round magazine. The others vary. Two come standard with three 10-round magazines. Of these, one is compliant for state regulations in Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland and New Jersey. The other is compliant for all the same and Massachusetts. One even has one 17-round mag and two 21-round mags! The 17-round mags almost fit flush while the 21-round ones extend a bit below the grip module.
The SIG Sauer P320 M17-Commemorative Edition is the same as the last variant with its one 17-round mag and a pair of 21-round mags! However, its slide catch, takedown lever, magazine release, trigger and manual safeties are Coyote Tan instead of matte black. The sights, removable sight plate and barrel are still matte black!
